Aspirants

Learning about the Order of Carmel while practicing the life of actively living in God’s presence. They discern if God is calling them to a life of prayer and virtue lived out in community, within the family of Carmel, for the good of the Church and the world. (Time: minimally One Year)

 

First & Second Year Scapular

Those who have received their Scapular.  Learning more about the Order of Carmel within the mission of one’s Baptism, while living in God’s presence and following the daily and monthly requirements of being a secular Carmelite.  Continuing to discern if God is calling them to the family of Carmel. (Time:  minimally Two Years).

Temporary Promise

The candidate making the Temporary Promise becomes a full member of the Secular Order of Carmel.  This is a time of continued learning, praying, actively living in God’s presence, and discerning if God is calling this member to make a Promise for life. This is a time for growth in virtues and in service to others within the community, as able.  (Time: minimally Three Years )

 

Definitive Promise

The full member of the Secular Order of Carmel who has made a definite (final) Promise actively lives each day in God’s presence while living in this world.  Prayer, Learning, Living the lifestyle of Carmel leads this phase (as all phases of formation in Carmel) to growth in the virtues of: humility, obedience, detachment, and love.  This is also a time for growth in service to others within and outside the community, as able
