Our Community

Being called to Carmel is a vocation motivated deep within us by Christ Himself. Our efforts to respond require conviction and committed perseverance; learning to balance our families and work responsibilities with our Carmelite calling of prayer, detachment, self-knowledge, humility, simplicity, and Community life.

A life lived in Carmel means to live in the ‘beautiful Garden of God’. Carmel heightens our spiritual awareness and enlarges our hearts through love. Through daily meditation our friendship with Christ deepens into Love. The more we become aware that God is within us, the more we are aware that He is in everyone else, and we can begin to love them as He
loves us.

This Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS), Mary Help of Christians, is a uniquely strong and close community even as it is relatively large. We come from all walks of life, professions, experiences and ages, yet there is an authentic vibrancy of intimacy in friendship and respect.

We are incredibly blessed to be a part of the Holy Hill Community, and we benefit tremendously from the Spiritual Assistance of the Friars whom we are honored to call our Brothers. We are formed and learn together, from Visitors to Final Promises for the rest of our lives, until we are called to Eternal Life, through His Great Mercy and Grace.
